Shawn Reed Racing to Transition to Limited NHRA Schedule Following 2026 Season

DEFIANCE, Missouri — Shawn Reed Racing announced today that the 2026 NHRA Mission

Foods Drag Racing Series season will mark the organization’s final year competing on a

full-time schedule in the Top Fuel category.

Beginning in 2027, the team will transition to a limited-event schedule as owner and driver

Shawn Reed shifts his primary focus toward launching and growing a new business based in San Antonio, Texas. The move comes as part of a broader business strategy that balances continued participation in NHRA Drag Racing with long-term financial sustainability.

“The reality is that the landscape of Top Fuel racing continues to evolve, and operating a

competitive full-time team requires a tremendous financial commitment,” said Reed. “We’ve

reached a point where making smart business decisions has to come first. This move allows us to remain involved in the sport while positioning ourselves for future success both on and off the racetrack.”

Rather than exiting the NHRA altogether, Shawn Reed Racing plans to compete selectively at events that align with strategic marketing opportunities, sponsor activation, and regional

initiatives.

“Our intention is to continue racing,” Reed said. “We believe there’s still tremendous value in

NHRA competition, especially when we can build programs around specific markets and create meaningful partnerships for sponsors. Running a limited schedule gives us the flexibility to capitalize on those opportunities while operating responsibly.”

As part of this transition, Shawn Reed Racing is also exploring all options for the future of the

organization.

The team is actively seeking partners interested in helping expand the program back to a more robust schedule and remains open to discussions with companies looking to utilize NHRA as a business-to-business and business-to-consumer marketing platform. At the same time, should the right opportunity present itself, ownership would consider the sale of the team’s assets or the organization as a whole.

“Everything is on the table,” Reed explained. “If the right marketing partner comes along and

shares our vision, we’d absolutely welcome the opportunity to continue building this team.

Likewise, if someone is looking to acquire an established Top Fuel operation, we’re willing to

have those conversations as well. We’re keeping every avenue open.”

The team’s transition also coincides with Reed’s plans to establish and grow a new company

headquartered in San Antonio. While additional details on that venture will be announced at a later date, Reed said the decision reflects his commitment to creating long-term opportunities beyond motorsports while maintaining a presence in the sport he loves.

“We’ve built something I’m incredibly proud of,” Reed said. “None of this happens without our

crew members, sponsors, partners, family, and fans who have supported us along the way. This isn’t the end of Shawn Reed Racing—it’s simply the beginning of a new chapter.”

Shawn Reed Racing will continue to compete full-time throughout the remainder of the 2026

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and remains committed to delivering strong performances for its partners while evaluating opportunities for the future.
